Match Reports Select XI Secure Tense Victory

dennis writes:
Mortimer West End Vs. BCL Select XI

Date: 12th July, 2009.

Venue: Mortimer West End Cricket Club.

Toss: Mortimer West End won the toss and elected to field.

Result: BCL Select XI won by 21 runs.

Pitch: Slightly two-paced in the first twenty overs due to the overnight rain but played perfectly true after that initial anomaly.
Weather: A real mixture – sun, rain, heat, wind. Picturesque rainbows appeared to present a colourful backdrop to a fine fixture.

Highlights: Will Macdonald (66 from 84) and James Wheeler (62 from 52) batted marvellously for the Select XI. Jamie Stead (35) and Tom Mackenzie (87) were supreme for MWE. Nick Howell (3-27) and Sam Boughton (2-35) did the damage for the Select. Titch Vickers imperious keeping display was ‘Foster-esque’. Select manager Rich Ashton’s 1 handed take at long-on from an Andy Johnson 6 is also worthy of mention, despite being a complete fluke!

Catering: Incredible. 1st things 1st – wherever the sausage rolls came from, I implore all Premier Division sides to go to this shop. They were AMAZING. Tremendous array of sandwiches, pizza, fruit etc. as well. The BBQ afterwards was phenomenal as well – magnificent beef burgers as well as excellent hot dogs ensured nobody left with any hunger.

Match Reports Stoke Row Secure Stunning Winning Draw

dennis writes:
Date: 11th July, 2009.

Venue: Peppard.

Toss: Peppard won the toss and elected to field.

Result: Peppard (11) claimed a losing draw vs. Stoke Row (17).

Pitch: Extremely green. The overnight rain created an extremely two-paced track that was difficult to bat on.

Weather: Miserable – a combination of overcast skies and drizzle throughout the afternoon.

Highlights: Matt Reeves fine bowling (5-23), supported by Roy Hayden (4-31). 15 year-old Rich Armstrong made a classy 29 for Stoke until being brilliantly caught & bowled by Hayden. Andy Watts (31) batted well for Peppard, whilst Dion Sampson (2-24) and Will Macdonald (3-27) excelled with the ball. Row’s fielding was outstanding, illustrated by Macdonald’s one-handed slip catch, Sampson’s direct hit run out from the boundary and the Howell-Clark run out of Ian Jackson.

Catering: A very fine effort. A good selection of sandwiches, supplemented by a fine array of savouries and fruit. The option of homemade cakes always ensures a glowing recommendation from this correspondent, and Peppard fulfilled this option.

  Stoke Row Secure Back-to-Back Triumphs

dennis writes:
Stoke Row Vs. Crown Wood

Date: 4th July, 2009.

Venue: Newlands Lane, Stoke Row.

Toss: Stoke Row won the toss and elected to field.

Result: Stoke Row (27) beat Mortimer West End (5) by 7 wickets.

Pitch: Dry and dusty, and favouring the spinners, although Row paceman Charlie Macdonald was able to induce some variable bounce. For the most part it favoured the batsman though.

Weather: Beautiful throughout the day, reaching 31 degrees at some stages.

Highlights: Thamindu Wedatalike’s composed 66 and Riyas Rajab’s 38. C-Mac bowled a magnificent spell claiming 3-20, whilst Dion Sampson (12-3-45-2) provided good support. Will Macdonald’s unbeaten 77, Nick Howell’s 55 not out and Sam Boughton’s 38 were all fine innings. Sampson’s post-match celebrations in Henley are also worthy of mention!!!

Catering: Another Row classic. Sue Boughton concocted a fine mix of baps (as opposed to sandwiches due to the heat), which, allied with an excellent mix of savouries – sausage rolls, scotch eggs, *****tail sausages etc. – and fruit (melon and pineapple) made a fine base. With the traditional Boughton home made cakes, it was another tea to truly savour.

Match Reports Stoke Row Claim Greatest Ever Win

power writes:
Date: 27th June, 2009.

Venue: Newlands Lane, Stoke Row.

Toss: Stoke Row won the toss and elected to bat.

Result: Stoke Row (33) beat Mortimer West End (7) by 26 runs.

Pitch: Bizarre. The opening salvo saw Stoke targeting 250, until the slower bowlers Bielby and Hodson had the ball ‘popping’ all over the show. A thundery shower saw the pitch hold together for MWE’s reply, although there was evidence of ‘skidding’ which meant conditions were even for both sides.

Weather: Glorious sunshine initially before a light drizzle was supplemented by a heavy downpour. Clouds then suc*****bed to some late evening sunshine towards the end of the game.

Highlights: Ken Allsobrook’s (3-20) and Bob Hodson’s (6-31). The match-winning eighth wicket stand of 46 between Dicky Lunnon (13) and George Baker (28). Some fireworks from Dion Sampson and Charlie Macdonald at the culmination of the Row innings. Sampson’s (3-24) and Will Macdonald’s (3-57). 16 year old Graham Mackenzie showed sheer class in his 36, whilst Tom Prinn (46) and Nick Bielby (24) also batted well.

Catering: You simply wouldn’t believe it. A debut tea from 19 year old Sam Fletcher was phenomenal. ‘BLT’s!!’ In addition were a great selection of alternative sandwiches – 6 loaves – plus chocolate bars, melon, savouries and cake. A close contender with both Marcus Lunnon and whoever compiled the Grosvenor delights for ‘Tea of the Season’ so far.

Middle Order Maestros Secure Stoke Row Draw

dennis writes:
Sandhurst Vs. Stoke Row

Date: 13th June, 2009.

Venue: Yorktown Road, Sandhurst.

Toss: Stoke Row won the toss and elected to field.

Result: Sandhurst (21) gained a winning draw vs. Stoke Row (10)

Pitch: A typical Yorktown Road track – an absolute road and ideal for batting.

Weather: After the previous weeks disappointment the weather sun returned to ensure an extremely pleasant afternoon.

Highlights: Run machine Graham Sanders’ classy 81 and an 84 run stand between Chris Pharo (50) and Andy Tutty (41) for Sandhurst. Nick Howell (2-47) and Darren Clark (2-59) shone for Stoke Row, and Rich Ashton claimed 4 dismissals. Howell (53) and Clark (52*) also shone with the bat, as did Sam Boughton (47). Ash Rahman took 2-47 but, as alluded to earlier, this was a batsmans day.

Catering: Good quality but lacking quantity. A nice selection of sandwiches but another tray would not have gone amiss. Likewise, a good mix of sausage rolls, scotch eggs and *****tail sausages but a greater amount would have been apprecitated!!
