Match Reports Majestic Boughton Foiled By Rain

dennis writes:
After a week which contained substantial rainfall, Stoke Row somehow managed to take to the field against Pinkneys Green in their FNG-BCL Premier Division clash at Newlands Lane. Although the pitch was exceedingly damp to start with, the positive nature of both sides ensured that the game began, albeit a half hour later than usual at 2.00 p.m.

Match Reports Stoke Row vs Peppard

dennis writes:
The curse of Henley Regatta struck again as Stoke Row crashed to a 29 run defeat at local rivals Peppard last Saturday. Having entered the FNG-BCL eight years ago, Stoke maintained their record of never having won on the ‘Royal’ Saturday, as they suffered a horrific top-order collapse which eventually proved their downfall in the face of a fine bowling display from the Vines’ brothers and league top wicket-taker Roy Hayden.

Match Reports Stoke Row 1st XI: Stoke Row trimuph despite Godbole Heroics

dennis writes:
A quite magnificent 82 from Crown Wood captain Ravi Godbole was not enough to prevent a severely under-strength Stoke Row side from claiming a nail-biting 18 run victory in a game which was an outstanding advertisement for the FNG-BCL Premier Division.

Stoke Row Captain Richard Ashton elected to bat on what appeared a superb wicket at St. Sebastian’s, on an afternoon bathed in sunshine and with an outfield of the highest order. The early dominance of opening pair Titch Vickers and Will Macdonald paid testimony to this decision, as, Macdonald in particular, they took an aggressive approach against the bowling of Godbole and James Taylor. Whilst Macdonald’s flicks through mid-wicket were of the highest order, a huge straight driven six by Vickers, something of a trademark, was undoubtedly the shining light in the early exchanges. In an opening salvo lasting nine overs, the pair rattled along at six an over, until Vickers slapped a long hop into the gleeful hands of Sargeant at extra cover.

  Match Reports Warfield Annihilated

sloth writes:

Those that were at the game will know why the Skipper is still smiling after the game on Saturday.

It had been a traumatic week in all, as the line-up for both teams changed many times. It did seem that the odds of winning the lottery were better than either team having a full quota.

It even ended with Sloth pinching two of the 2nds at the last moment. Well, Liam was in Jurgo’s car as he passed Newbury train station and Manoj had to bring Pradeep into Newbury anyway?  Still the 1sts only ended up with 10 men (that is, of course, if they could find out what had happened to John as he wasn’t picking up his phone!).....

Match Reports Sandhusrt vs. Crown Wood

Ravi writes:
With heavy rain overnight it seemed like many matches would be abandoned including this latest Premier division game between Sandhurst and Crown Wood, but upon arriving at Sandhurst, the pitch and outfield seemed in remarkably good condition and play got underway on time.

Match Reports Swindon NALGO secure 35 points against Shinfield

shanti writes:

On a beautiful day for cricket Sw NALGO 1 overcame the early shock of losing their openers for 13 runs to Zaf Akram with some sensible batting by Shaz Khan (100 not out) and Fahim Zafar (34) who put on 74 for the 3rd wicket. The need to accelerate the scoring rate saw the latter caught on the boundary by a well judged catch taken by Roberts. Then followed a cameo 34 from Shoayb Rahman to boost the score to 159 in the 39th over.  The last five overs saw Shaz Khan open his shoulders to bring him a well deserved hundred and the total to 217 for the loss of 4 wickets.

Shinfield started disastrously with Madgwick losing his middle stump in the 2nd ball to a snorter from young Usman Sahar (3 for 32). He continued to worry the batsmen and Srisanth Garg attempted to break loose by driving him  hard to mid off and Shoayb Rahman took a brilliant low catch diving to his left. M Ilyas who looked assured and dangerous upto now took an injudicious swipe at a rising ball on the offside giving skipper Penfold a scalp behind the stumps. Skipper Getgood did his best to anchor the batting but with Das (4 for 23) coming onto the attack together with Ahmed (2 for 24) saw Shinfield crumble to 105. NALGO took all the catches that were offered to gain 35 points after a good all round performance.

Match Reports Peppard and Crown Wood in high scoring draw

Ravi writes:
On a beautiful day Crown Wood 1st XI travelled to the picturesque ground of Peppard. Both teams were looking to erase the disappointment of the previous week’s results where both sides put in very poor batting performances. So, as so often happens, what followed was an entertaining high scoring match with credit to both sides’ batsmen!

Match Reports Magnificent Magee Keeps Mortimer Motoring

power writes:
Mortimer West End cemented their position as runaway leaders of the FNG-BCL, securing a well-deserved seven wicket triumph over Stoke Row. The result continues Mortimer’s 100% record remains in tact after the first month of the season, whilst Stoke Row slip back into the middle of the table.
