Pitch:A touch green although decent pace and carry. Some occasional ‘tennis ball’ bounce but all-in-all a fine wicket for early May.
Weather: The dawning of a new season was greeted with fabulous, warm sunshine. Long may it continue!!
Highlights: The expected control of Ravi Godbole (11-2-34-2) and Jay Jeyerajah (11-5-22-1) for Crown Wood, supplemented by a fine spell from Kamran Iftikhar (12-4-32-4); Thamindu Wedatlike’s 37 and Iftikhar’s unbeaten 90 ensured an emphatic victory during the run chase.
Catering: A decent selection of sandwiches and a healthy portion of fresh fruit (the melon particularly good) and assorted chocolatey luxuries. Something may have gone wrong with the sausage rolls however!

'Magnificent Mortimer' - The 2008 FNG-BCL Premier Division Review
Having lost four highly influential clubs in the history of the Berkshire League (Yateley, Sonning and Purley (who’s 3rd’s maintain a place in the system), and Theale and Tilehurst) to the enticements of progression up the ECB ‘food chain’, by way of movement to the Thames Valley League, things looked somewhat ominous for the BCL at the close of the 2007 season.

Result: Stoke Row (23) winning draw over Crown Wood (6)
Weather: Arguably the finest day of the summer. Hot throughout without any respite from the sun. A pleasant change from the beginning of August!
Highlights:‘Il Maestro’ Macdonald’s captivating 122* and another decent knock from Titch Vickers. Crown Wood spinners Rob Crook (in particular) and Jay Jeyerajah bowled well. Also for Wood, stand-in captain Raz Rubbani’s excellent unbeaten 71. Young and Browne claimed braces for Row, Macdonald bowled immaculately, albeit unluckily, again.

Weather: Miraculously, the sun shone throughout the afternoon for the first time since July. Whilst it became a tad chilly when the overhead cloud covered the sun, it was generally warm.
Highlights: Sam Boughton’s hard-hitting 73 (including 5 sixes), a pair of decent starts from the Stoke Row openers Vickers and Macdonald, and some lusty striking from Ashton, Howell and Young in the closing overs. Spinners Macdonald and Sampson again excelled, taking 9-61 between them. For Woodcote, Knox and Wheeler bowled well, whilst that duo, plus Jezz Mayo, all made starts with the bat.
